MADE Architecture 2014 - Competition Entry

Manila Petroform is a cave-like stone-structure formed by, and rooted from our heritage. The monumental form, finished in stone, is a representation of our traditional houses, historic forts, and our first dwelling unit, a cave.

It has a geometric form that evokes modernity, finished in stonework referencing to our history. The design gives the structure an individual character that denotes itself, in essence and in form. Its majestic form stands out from context, while its surfaces give a sense of familiarity. It will be a timeless structure, while embodying the spirit of its time. Its materiality suggests permanence.

It is to be an ode to Philippines, its arts, culture and environment, carved from stone. It will be a permanent imprint, an indelible architecture.
